The Entrust Datacard CD800 was a popular direct-to-card printer available in simplex and duplex versions. This page explains its legacy status, ongoing support information, and the newer Entrust Sigma platform that now replaces the CD800 series.

CD800 Series Now in Legacy Support
Entrust formally discontinued the CD800 printer series and the CLM lamination module, with end of production set at 31 October 2021. Entrust also advised that support, supplies and spare parts would continue through 31 October 2026 on a reasonable efforts basis.
For customers, that means the CD800 is now a legacy printer platform. Many systems are still in use, and genuine consumables may still be available, but it is sensible to plan ahead for long-term replacement and support.
CD800 Simplex
The CD800 simplex model was designed for single-sided card printing and was widely used for staff cards, visitor cards and membership cards. It remains a legacy printer and is no longer part of the current Entrust range.
CD800 Duplex
The CD800 duplex model offered double-sided card printing for organisations needing more card space for branding, variable data or back-of-card information. It is also now a legacy printer platform.
What Has Replaced the CD800 Series?
Entrust’s discontinuation notice identifies the Sigma DS Series as the replacement platform for older CD800 printers. Entrust describes Sigma as the next generation of instant card issuance, designed for easier use, stronger security and a more modern print environment.
For customers still using a CD800, the main question is usually whether to keep the current system going with genuine consumables, or move to a newer Sigma printer when reliability, support life or card issuance needs change.
Legacy Support
If your CD800 is still operating well, it may still be practical to continue using it for now. We can help with general advice and genuine consumables where available.
Consumables
Genuine ribbons, cleaning products and selected laminate supplies may still be available for CD800 printers. Using the correct consumables helps support print quality and dependable operation.
Migration Planning
If your printer is ageing, important to daily operations, or becoming harder to support, now is a good time to review the newer Sigma range and plan the next step.
Support Timeline
Entrust stated that the CD800 series reached end of production on 31 October 2021. The manufacturer also stated that support, supplies and spare parts would continue through 31 October 2026 with reasonable efforts, while reserving the right to change availability and pricing if supply conditions changed.
That makes this a sensible time for customers to review whether to continue with a legacy printer or move toward a newer platform.
