Entrust Instant ID software provides the tools needed to design, issue and manage secure photo ID cards and credentials. It can support anything from a single card-printing workstation through to a centrally managed, multi-user credential programme with database, smart card and system integration.
The installed software range includes Express, Plus, Professional and Enterprise. Entrust also offers Instant ID as a Service, a separate cloud-based platform for organisations wanting browser-based deployment and support for physical and mobile credentials.
Installed software or cloud service?
Entrust Instant ID Software
Installed and licensed within your organisation. It can start with one operator and scale to a centrally managed network with multiple concurrent users, shared data and more advanced integrations.
Instant ID as a Service
Entrust’s cloud-based option. It uses a browser-based interface and can support physical card issuance, mobile credentials, remote administration and connected printer management without a traditional on-premise software installation.
Four Entrust Instant ID Software Editions
All four editions use a common platform. The main differences are the available features, integrations, number of users, credential designs and workflows.
Instant ID Express
Basic card issuance
The entry point for straightforward card design and printing. It supports essential card-production features including photo ID design, data import, barcodes, QR codes, mobile enrolment and an embedded database.
Best suited to: one operator, simple workflows and organisations purchasing an Entrust Sigma DSE printer.
Instant ID Plus
Enhanced single-user production
Adds advanced camera and signature capture, reporting, batch printing and support for Microsoft Access, SQL Server and MySQL databases.
Best suited to: a single card-production workstation requiring stronger database, reporting and batch-printing capability.
Instant ID Professional
Multi-user and integrated issuance
Introduces concurrent users, central user management, document scanning, OCR-assisted data entry, Active Directory, SAML 2.0, smart card support and broader database compatibility.
Best suited to: schools, healthcare, business, government and other organisations where several authorised operators share one credential system.
Instant ID Enterprise
Advanced enterprise credential management
Includes the capabilities of the lower editions plus advanced SDK, web-service and access-control integration tools, field-based access and much greater capacity for users, card designs and workflows.
Best suited to: large organisations with complex credential programmes, many users, multiple sites or integration with HR and physical access-control systems.

What Entrust Instant ID Can Help You Do
Design professional ID cards
Create front and back layouts with photographs, logos, text, dates, barcodes, QR codes and magnetic-stripe data.
Capture photos and signatures
Use supported webcams, camera devices and signature-capture equipment to enrol cardholders and produce personalised credentials.
Import and manage data
Import CSV or ASCII records, use the embedded database, or connect suitable editions to external business and identity databases.
Control users and workflows
Professional and Enterprise editions provide central user administration and role-based access for controlled credential issuance.
Issue smart and encoded cards
Selected editions can support smart card personalisation and encoding workflows for access-control and higher-security applications.
Integrate with other systems
Enterprise tools can support integration with third-party applications, APIs, physical access-control systems and wider organisational processes.
Which Entrust software option is right for you?
Choose Express for a straightforward Sigma DSE setup with one operator and basic card-design and issuance requirements.
Choose Plus when one operator needs stronger database connectivity, reporting, signature capture or batch printing.
Choose Professional when multiple operators, central administration, smart card support, Active Directory or a more integrated credential programme are required.
Choose Enterprise for large or complex programmes requiring extensive user capacity, sophisticated integration, SDKs, web services or physical access-control connectivity.
Consider Instant ID as a Service where browser-based cloud deployment, remote management or combined physical and mobile credential issuance is preferred.
Designed for Entrust ID Card Printer Systems
Entrust Instant ID is designed to work as part of an integrated card-issuance solution with Entrust printers, supplies and support. Depending on the edition and configuration, it can be used with Entrust Sigma direct-to-card printers, Artista retransfer systems and selected third-party printers.
Printer compatibility, encoding, database access and integration requirements should be checked before software is ordered. ID Solutions can help match the software edition to your printer, card type, user numbers and required workflow.
Is Instant ID Express a discontinued or legacy edition?
No. Entrust currently lists Express as one of the four Instant ID editions and specifies it as available with Sigma DSE printers.
Is Instant ID as a Service the same as Enterprise?
No. Enterprise is the highest installed Instant ID edition. Instant ID as a Service is a separate cloud-based platform with its own subscription, features and deployment model.
Can Instant ID connect to an existing database?
Yes, depending on the edition. Plus adds support for Microsoft Access, SQL Server and MySQL. Professional and Enterprise add further database and directory options.
Can the software support smart cards and access-control credentials?
Professional and Enterprise include smart-card capabilities. Enterprise adds more advanced integration tools. The exact printer encoder, card technology and system requirements must be confirmed for each project.
